Lega statuettes, called "Maginga", are rarely taller than 38 cm(15 inches),and were carved out of wood and bone. Employed during initiation ceremonies, they have a mnemonic function insofar as they assisted in the telling of ancestor stories or in the depiction of proverbs. MATERIAL: African buffalo bone.
