BOWL PITKIN & BROOKS DERBY PATTERN ABP CUT GLASS NR
GLASS CUTTER: Pitkin & Brooks of Chicago, Illinois
SIGNATURE: None found
PATTERN NAME AND REFERENCE: This ultra flashy pattern is named Derby. For reference I have included the picture of a punch bowl cut in this pattern from page 32 in the 1909 section of the ACGA Pitkin & Brooks catalog reprints.
AGE: It was surely made sometime close to the 1909 catalog date mentioned above.
BLACK LIGHT TEST RESULTS: Confirms American Brilliant Period (approximately 1876-1916)
MEASUREMENTS: 9-3/4" wide and 3-3/8" high
WEIGHT / RING: It weighs 5.1 pounds and has an excellent ring when tapped.
BLANK / GLASS CLARITY: This blown blank has a very unusual flying saucer type shape. The glass is bright and clear.
CUTTING DETAILS: The main miters have good depth and the precision is generally very good, but I'll mention some repairs in my condition report.
POLISHING QUALITY: The finish looks and feels very crisp.
CONDITION REPORT (ALWAYS VERY PICKY): The teeth have had some work done on them. The only easily noticed evidence is one section of 6 teeth that is much lower and a bit thinner than the rest. My black and white picture from the side shows this area well where the pattern is up into the teeth and the main diagonal miter that is now thicker than the others. Otherwise the teeth are all there and I'll mention a sliver type flake that is 1/8" long on top of a tooth and a few tiny pencil point or less sized nicks on them. The side and bottom pattern areas look very good with just a couple of pinpoint to pencil point sized nicks. My picky eyes spotted 6 probable touchups to the main miters on the side where the notches are, but they can only be noticed at just the right angle. The bottom shows some minor wear scratches. The top interior looks real good, but I'll mention some acid polishing marks near the center for accuracy sake.
FINAL COMMENTS: In spite of the repairs this is still a great bowl that is hard to find at the very least. It is actually one of the last remnants from the 400-piece cut glass collection that I sold on eBay 1-2 years ago. I'm sure the new owner will like this unusually shaped very flashy piece.
BIDDING FORMAT: There is no reserve with a $9 starting price. This is my favorite way to sell even high-priced items.
I will never under any conditions end my auctions early to sell to an anxious buyer requesting a buy it now.
SHIPPING & INSURANCE: A flat rate for both shipping and insurance combined by USPS Priority Mail to anywhere in the U.S.A. will be $10.
I don't ship my cut glass outside of the U.S.A.
AFTER SALE CHECKOUT: I DO NOT USE EBAY'S CHECKOUT. You will get an automatic email from me shortly after the auctions end. At the bottom is a link to a secure Vendio Checkout form. It will be much easier for both of us if you take a moment to fill it out with your payment intentions and you can print a receipt from this. Another very secure way is to go directly to the completed Ebay auction and click on the Vendio Checkout button. If you feel at all uncomfortable with either of these, I will gladly do it the old fashioned way if you email me and request this.
I NEVER USE EBAY'S SECOND CHANCE OFFER FORMAT. If you receive one of these offers on one of my items, please do not fall for these or any other similar scams. I will deal with these situations privately and ask you to call me at my phone number shown in this listing.
I am a member of the American Cut Glass Association. I subscribe to the ACGA Code of Ethics. I regularly buy lots of quality cut glass and will have plenty more to offer in my future Ebay listings. As many of you already know, I'm very much into cut glass, but I'm not your typical cut glass collector. I prefer to own this glass for just short periods of time and I only have pieces that will eventually be sold. With this strategy I'm able to sell on eBay even the most desirable and very rare pieces that I can find and not keep them for myself. Many serious cut glass buyers have benefited from this and I also hope to keep the casual or beginner buyers happy too. Please check out my other current listings and bookmark my site or add me to your eBay favorite sellers list.
Payments accepted are personal checks with up to a 3 day clearing period (unless good prior history). Money orders, cashier checks, and PayPal payments will usually be shipped the same or next day after receiving.
Bid with confidence, satisfaction is always guaranteed. I offer a 7-day return privilege. If you are unsatisfied or if you feel the item was misrepresented, it may be returned provided the item is in original condition. For questions please use the "Ask seller a question" link in the eBay auction or you can phone me at 412-486-9727 during reasonable Eastern Standard Time hours.

SALES TAX: Pennsylvania residents without a valid resale tax number are asked to please add 7% sales tax (6% PA. & 1% for Allegheny County) to your final purchase price when checking out. I m sorry, but there will be no exceptions to this tax if you live in Pennsylvania.
